The Food and Feelings Workbook
Author: Karen R. Koenig, LCSW, M.Ed

Conquering problems with eating is related to developing new ways of coping with discomfort. The most uncomfortable feelings are guilt, shame, anxiety, disappointment, and loneliness. They make us feel vulnerable and we struggle to cope. In this workbook, one can use the, exercises to learn how to identify, experience, and express these feelings instead burying them in food-related behaviors.

This book outlines the four basic rules that "normal" eaters follow automatically. These include eating when they are hungry, choosing foods that satisfy them, eating with awareness and enjoyment, and stopping when they are full. The book intends to help people examine their beliefs, feelings, and behaviors about food and eating. The author’s objective is to help them learn to cope differently thereby having a different relationship with food.

We highly recommend this book for helping the reader observe his or her internal cues for eating.

Intuitive Eating: A Revolutionary Program That Works
Authors: Evelyn Tribole, Elyse Resch
Two dieticians who have specialized in eating disorders wrote this book. The authors strive to help the individual get away from the outside pressures to be thin. The main idea is to notice hunger and satiation in oneself. What is right for one person may be different for the other. Understanding your own feelings about what you want to eat and why their central point is. Once one becomes stable, this is a very important book to continue with recovery from an eating disorder.

We highly recommend this book to begin to develop a new relationship with food that is based on internal signals.

Roger Gould is Roger Gould, M.D. is a leading authority on emotional eating. He helps the reader become aware of emotions that contribute to their out of control eating.
