People who come to me are usually frightened, anxious, full of hope and yet ready to be disappointed or judged or both. I listen and provide a safe space free of judgment or demands. While we certainly talk about eating disorder symptoms the focus of our work and our conversations is about the person as a whole. We look at her life and how to make her life more safe and secure. We look at where she is treated badly and explore how to create a more healthy daily life where she is respected. We gradually disentangle her from a web of lies and/or self deceptions she's created to protect herself so she can live more confidently in her own truth. We discover her genuine heart's desires and find ways to be on the path to living the life she truly wants. As we do this she develops aspects of herself that were neglected or stunted by the eating disorder. As she develops she gains strength, confidence and a sturdiness that helps her heal from old wounds and no longer need her eating disorder. The entire process is one in which her creativity is called upon, stimulated and eventually relied upon and trusted. In recovery that creativity remains accessible to her, and her life and relationships open up in ways that make her unique life worth living and living well.
