The number one problem is effect of dieting is deprivation. Most people, have been on many types of of diets in their lifetime, including very restrictive diets as well as more healthy diets. Some of the restrictive diets, the cabbage soup diet, the ice cream diet, the liquid protein diet, and many other restrictive food plans.

Often people who go on these diets, end up feeling very deprived. Once they have gotten to their goal weight, there is a honeymoon period when they can enjoy their new shape.Unfortunately, after a while, deprivation come up and through their own torment they end up binging on high calorie food.

It has been suggested that this weight cycling does have negative effects on the body. The harmful effects of weight cycling are likely to include reduction in lean body mass in relation to body fat and a decrease in metabolic efficacy making future weight loss even more difficult. This can lead to even greater weight gain and maybe contribute to obesity and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes as well as other weight related diseases. Dieting and weight cycling can effect the body systems that give the brain signals the brain that gives the individual the feeling of hunger or satiation. Several aspects of digestion including absorption, and metabolism and information transited to the brain via the vagus nerve, that signals meal termination and satiety can be compromised. Therefore these individuals often do not a sense of being hungry or full. People who have dieted much of their lives often do not pay attention to their body’s internal cues. They do not recognize when they are hungry or full. Many of my clients acknowledge that they never have let themselves get to the point of hunger and are only aware of feeling full when they over stuffed.
